K.L. Gumm (born 1971) is an American author whose work blends dark romance, psychological suspense, and crime-driven storytelling. Raised with a restless imagination and a fascination for complicated characters, Gumm began developing story ideas in his late teens, around the age of seventeen or eighteen. What started as notebooks full of concepts, characters, and plot twists slowly grew into a lifelong creative pursuit that ran parallel to his working life.
For most of his adult years, Gumm worked in construction, building things with his hands while quietly building stories in his mind. Long days on job sites often turned into long nights thinking about plotlines, motivations, and the darker corners of human nature. Though writing remained mostly private during those years, the ambition never faded. He attended college and studied English, where he discovered that writing was not just an interest but something he genuinely loved.
For decades, Gumm viewed storytelling as a long-term plan—a retirement chapter waiting in the wings. The idea was simple: work hard, build a life, and one day finally bring the stories to life that had been developing for years.
That moment arrived in his fifties.
